Etsy & CraftCult

Do you have an Etsy shop? I've dabbled once before with starting an Etsy (the world's favorite online handmade marketplace) shop. But in the long run, I never followed through with it. Now with winter approaching, I"ll have more time and have decided to try it again.
I love it that you can sell handmade items as well as crafting supplies. I usually order oodles of craft supplies because from most wholesalers you have to order in bulk. And that always leaves me with lots of crafting supplies left over. I know I could save them for next year and so on, but my shelves are full. So this week, I am making a goal to try to clean them out a bit. I can't wait to see how this goes. lol.
Another great thing I've ran into when fiddling with Etsy is the cool plugin for blogs. It's from the site CraftCult and it puts like a virtual shopping box on your blog of your shop. It's really cool and free. See it in action here on my blog.
Here's what my lil store facing looks like on my blog from CraftCult:

Air Fresheners: Are You Spraying Kerosene?

Would you fill a bottle with kerosene and spray it around your home? You may just be doing that very thing! So please think twice before buying aerosol air freshener again. I am guilty also. From time to time I grab a bottle to give my home a fresh new smell. But never again will I.

This morning Yahoo put out an article about possible cancer causing products. Here is this tad bit of info below. (I copied a snippet of the page, but here's the link to the full page. If you click, please refer to page 6 of 9 for what I am talking about.

Let me quote it, in case you can't see the type: "Air fresheners are among the worst offenders, many contain either isopar which is a deodorized kerosene or paradichlorobenze, both of which are carcinogenic and toxic to the lungs, liver, and kidneys."

It is so saddening to think that over time companies have taken so many shortcuts just to make a buck. I am talking about using the cheapest ways possible to make their product, whatever the means. And using known chemicals which have been linked to cancer as an ingredient. It is simply sickening. But I'm sure you also read article after article about this very topic. So what I'm trying to get at is that we need to realize what we are using in our homes on a daily basis. Things like this really grab my attention. I am still amazed to learn that air fresheners are basically a deodorized kerosene. It's scary to think what else we use on a regular basis that is probably killing us....

Easy Fudge Recipe

Fudge you say? Well forget all your fails before, this is a super easy recipe that only takes about 10 minutes & your done!

You need:
1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips (18oz)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 & 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

Melt your chocolate chips and condensed milk in a heavy saucepan.
I choose a cast iron skillet. Reason is you don't want your chocolate to burn in a think pan before it all gets melty!
Next:
When it is all a melty mixture, simply pour it out into a container that you have greased with some butter. Just enough to prevent sticking and I love tiny the added "umph" of flavor. lol

That's it. Just sit it in the fridge for a bit too cool, if you can't wait. Then cut up into squares!

Ummm Ummm Good!

Salmonella Scare

I'm really starting to hate going to the grocery store now. And not just because of the prices anymore. Seems like there's a salmonella scare within something now, every few months. And today it is with 101 peanut butter products and additional items made with Sunland products to be safe. There's also a recall on cantaloups from south western Indiana also containing the salmonella bacteria.

The main focus of the recall surrounds a peanut brand called Trader Joe's. Please note, Jiff and Skippy are NOT among the recall list. And remember, if you don't know for sure about your product, ABC News advises for you to throw it out. Better safe than sorry.

Here's a list I found on ABCNews of some the names to watch out for:

Stores that sold it: Whole Foods Market, Target, Safeway, Fresh & Easy, Harry and David, Sprouts, Heinen's, Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, Giant Food of Landover, Md.

Brands to watch out for are: Target's Archer Farms, Safeway's Open Nature, Earth Balance, Fresh & Easy, Late July, Heinen's, Joseph's, Natural Value, Naturally More, Peanut Power Butter, Serious Food, Snaclite Power, Sprouts Farmers Market, Sprouts, Sunland and Dogsbutter. Sunland's recall includes 101 products

I will update this later, as new stores/items are revealed. I just read that Kroger also have cleared some shelves of possible contaminated products.
