Magnolia Tree in Full Bloom

Magnolia trees are simply beautiful flowering trees with an aroma like no other. They are named after Pierre Magnol who was a french botanist.

I got a few good shots of my Magnolia Tree this year when it was in full bloom.The fragrance is so hard to explain because it smells so good. I would describe it as a vintage perfume filling the air. It's a soft aroma but yet very noticeable. So hard to describe if you've never smelled it. And the blooms... oh the blooms are just big and beautiful!



Below are me and my niece Emma headed for the hammock under the Magnolia tree. It's our favorite place in the summer. And when fall rolls around, we still head out there to swing we just take a blanket with us.

Chestnuts & Gum Balls

After recently reading a post titled: Tinfoil,Cigarettes,Sweet Gum Balls and Christmas Trees from Ms Lee P., I remembered also having the tree in my backyard. So I went out to gather some for a decoration project that was stemmed from ideas posted in her comments section on the post.

Well, when I went out to gather some, I soon realized I was after the wrong things. They weren't balls from a Gum tree rather they are alot larger and way more pointy. They actually hurt when trying to gather them up. I believe they might be chestnuts from a Chestnut tree. I have seen alot of deer in our backyard, so maybe it's these that they are after. Because they actually have nuts inside them.

Here's a pic of the chestnuts (the large ones above) beside a gum ball (the smaller one with a stem). Wow , what a difference.

Has anyone ever roasted thier own chestnuts over an open fire?

It's a simple question. And will give us all a lil insight as to each of our surroundings.


From my window I see big ole hills, countless trees, so bare. A few of them are hanging onto to a couple last leaves that haven't fallen yet. An empty hammock, hanging ever so still, waiting for spring yet once again. A small creak in the distant, flowing ever so gently.

My backyard is huge. It is also called the Daniel Boone National Forest.

Beautiful Country Barn in Olympia, Kentucky

This barn was in my family for years and years. In fact, I believe it was the same barn, (just fixed up and painted lately) that my granddaddy use to hang his tobacco in. It has recently been sold to people outside the family. I wish I had a before pic to post with this. Anyways, it was just a beautiful day out, plenty of sunshine, and of course, I had my camera in hand.

This was me and Greg (I'm the one holding on for dear life....screaming, lol) out on the Cave Run Lake in 2008. A comment from a member made me remember the first time I got on one of these. I asked the man, "Wheres the brakes at?" Man said, "How many Hills do you think your gonna go over out on the lake?" And so, i got my answer. lol.

From where I sit, in my computer room, I see big ole hills, countless trees, so bare. A few evergreens here and there. Snow falling and a lil creek that is frozen, still trying to flow in spots. It is also called the Daniel Boone National Forest.
